FEMA Hazus Program in their annual conference last August announced the creation of a “Transportation Specific Hazus User Group”.
Hazus is the official standard tool for damage assessment and loss estimation that works as an extension/model builder analysis through GIS, which properly adjusted with local data, can even support State Declarations of emergencies.
Hazus has an available default data that enables the data customization to take place.
DNREC, U.of D./DGS, DelDOT, DEMA, The National Institute for Buildings (NIBS) and even USGS have a lot of work with Hazus.
The Hazus gap on data and analysis pertaining to transportation and utilities now gets the chance to evolve through this group and all the complementary work being done by many academics, government and consultants in this area.
You are welcome to join the group with LinkedIn and also participate in the 1st webinar with TSHUG this Friday.
We will have the following speakers:
* Eric Berman – Hazus Program Manager
* Loren Turner from CalTrans & Dr. David Wald from USGS on ShakeCast
* Marie Peppler from USGS on Hazus and real-time flooding impact analysis
We will have Nancy Pomerleau from DHS as the moderator also helping us understand some issues and opportunities ahead of us.
